The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has released a press statement reminding Hondurans and Nicaraguans in the US eligible for Temporary Protected Status to file a re-registration application by July (30JUL07).

The press release is as follows:

With only five weeks remaining, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) today reminded Hondurans and Nicaraguans eligible for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to file a re-registration application for TPS by the closing date of July 30, 2007. Failure to file a TPS re-registration application by July 30, will result in the withdrawal of TPS benefits, including employment authorization and protection from removal from the United States. There are approximately 78,000 Honduran nationals and 4,000 Nicaraguan nationals (or aliens having no nationality who last habitually resided in Honduras or Nicaragua respectively) who may be eligible for re-registration. From May 29 to June 22, 13,715 Hondurans and 797 Nicaraguans have filed TPS re-registration applications.

The 18-month extension of TPS for nationals of Honduras and Nicaragua is effective July 5, 2007, and will remain in effect until January 5, 2009. Nationals of Honduras and Nicaragua who have received TPS previously must re-register for the 18-month extension during the 60-day re-registration period, which began May 29, 2007 and remains in effect until July 30, 2007.

To re-register for TPS under the extension, a TPS beneficiary must submit: (1) Form I-821 (Application for Temporary Protected Status) without the filing fee, (2) Form I-765 (Application for Employment Authorization), with fee if requesting a TPS-related EAD or an extension of a TPS-related EAD, and (3) a Biometric fee if the beneficiary is 14 years of age or older or is under age 14 and is requesting an EAD. Applicants requesting an EAD may request that the Form I-765 fee be waived in accordance with 8 CFR 103.7. However, at this time, USCIS cannot waive the Biometric fee. Applicants must submit both the Form I-765 and Form I-821 for re-registration.

As of the date of this notice, the fee for Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, is $180 and the fee for biometrics service is $70. On July 30, 2007 new fees go into effect. On that date, the fee for filing Form I-765 will increase to $340 and the biometrics fee increases to $80. To facilitate the processing of TPS re-registrations, applicants are strongly encouraged to file as soon as possible and not wait until the end of the re-registration period. In order to pay the current fees, an applicant must file before July 30, 2007. Failure to submit the correct filing fees will result in the rejection of TPS re-registration applications.
