Permanent Employment Certification To Green Card Status

Permanent Employment Certification is the first of two steps to hire an alien. The first step is all about the US employer establishing his right to hire an alien. The employer must demonstrate that all previous efforts to hire sufficient US workers have failed. In the Permanent Employment Certification application the employer must show how the alien’s qualification match those of the vacancy. If all goes well, the employer will be granted a Permanent Employment Certification for that alien.

The second step is where the alien, based on his employer’s Permanent Employment Certification, applies for a work permit and green card. The work permit typically takes around six weeks to process. Once the work permit is issued the alien can start working for the employer. The green card will follow within one year.
