EB1 Green Card – Major Internationally Recognized Award

Welcome to our EB1 green card video presentation series.

In this presentation, we’re going to focus in on the EB1 green card category ‘Major Internationally Recognized Award’.

US Immigration has established the EB1 green card as being reserved for aliens who can show that they have risen to the very top of their profession. An objective way to determine that fact is whether the alien has won any internationally recognized awards. If this can be shown to the satisfaction of US Immigration, then an EB1 green card could be yours for the taking.

EB1 green card qualifying awards exist in almost every field of endeavor.  The most obvious and most well known American awards are in the area of entertainment, such as an Oscar, a Grammy, a Tony, an Emmy, SAG and the Golden Globes. For the EB1 green card you do not have to win any American awards – as long as the award is highly regarded internationally, then US Immigration is happy. Obviously, we have to gather all the evidence, and this can be a creative process in and of itself.

There are also many EB1 qualifying awards in the area of the sciences. We’re not talking about who has the best PhD from the best university, as we have to go way beyond that. We have to look at any academic award that has been granted on a national or international basis rather than being conferred by a single university. Examples would include the MacArthur Fellowship, the Fields Medal, the Bancroft Prize, and the Nobel Prize, to name just a few. Many pursuits have great and acclaimed awards like the Pulitzer Prize for journalism.

For EB1 green card purposes, the idea is that the award is so prestigious, that no matter which university the academic hailed from the award would be such that every national university (and perhaps internationally) would recognize the significance of the award within academic circles. For example, the Pulitzer Prize is nationally and internationally recognized.

It is very important to note that awards can be from any country in the world, as every country has its own way of recognizing extraordinary talent. Many EB1 green cards are routinely granted for awards unheard of in the US, but within that alien’s country and amongst other countries within that field, the award is well known and recognized as being highly prestigious.

In the world of marketing and media, there are many notable internationally recognized awards. In fact, in marketing, winning an award is an absolute key component in being able to distinguish one advertising agency or individual as being superior – of extraordinary standing.

The key message here is that whilst there are many ways to qualify for an EB1 green card, if you have won any kind of major award, no matter how long ago, you may well be qualified without knowing it. It is surprising the amount of consultations we have done where the alien had no idea at all they had the makings of an excellent EB1 green card case because they won a particular award in the 1970’s.
